FAQs

The Ice Pod

How much ice do I need to add?

We recommend adding 5-10 kg of ice to your ice bath per session depending on the initial water temperature. The amount of ice needed highly depends on your tap water temperature, the climate you live in, and how cold you desire it to be. If you live in colder climates, adding ice may not even be needed.

We also offer our Ice Bricks which makes huge 1.5 kg ice bricks in your home freezer that will last significantly longer than regular cubed ice, and melt a lot slower.

Since the Ice Pod is insulated it will keep the water cold for longer, and you may therefore not have to add as much ice after the first time.

How do I keep the water clean?

To keep the water clean for long periods of time, we recommend getting our Water Maintenance Pack

This Pack includes 2 months supply of our custom formulated disinfectant & cleanser you need to have perfect clean and clear water. Using these products, you'll likely not have to change your water for weeks to months.

If you don't use sanitizer in your ice bath, we recommend changing the water once per week or every 3-5 sessions.

Does it include a cover?

Yes, both the Standard and Pro Ice Pod include a waterproof cover to keep the water clean.

We also offer an insulated lid that helps keep the water cold for longer.

How long should each ice bath session be?

To get the health benefits, you'll need to stay in cold water below 15°C for 3-5 minutes. Cold water therapy works best with the right combination of time and temperature. Each individual is different and some people can tolerate lower temperatures.

How do I drain the Ice Pod?

The Ice Pod comes with a tap at the bottom for easy draining. To empty it, you can either connect a standard garden hose or simply open the tap, depending on where the Pod is set up.

For indoor draining or longer distances, we recommend using our 3 m Ice Pod Drain Hose.

Can the Ice Pod be set up outside?

Yes!

We engineered the Pod to be weather and UV resistant, so you can set it up indoors or outdoors, even in temperatures below freezing. The insulation layer slows down the water’s freezing process, making it turn to ice much more slowly.
When temperatures are below freezing, you’ll need to stir the water at least once a day to keep it from freezing completely.

Alternatively, our Water Jet keeps the water moving at all times to prevent it from freezing solid (and it also makes the water feel much colder).

How do I assemble the IcePod?

It’s super easy and takes less than 10 minutes! Please follow the instructions that come with the IcePod, or watch this video

What temperature do you recommend?

We recommend starting out with your ice bath tub temperature at around 15°C if it's your first time, and then slowly lowering the temperature and duration for each session. That way your body will get acclimated to the cold.

For the seasoned ice vikings, get the water below 10°C to really feel the kick, and stay in for at least 2 minutes for optimal benefits.

The Pod Chiller

Is the Chiller compatible with my current ice bath?

Yes! The Chiller can easily be used with your current Ice Pod or with any other type of ice bath.

To connect to your existing Ice Pod (1 drain valve): simply attach the hose entering the water filter side of the chiller to the drain valve on your Ice Pod. The second hose from the chiller outlet goes over the top ring or edge into the Ice Pod.

To connect to any other ice bath: you can also use the chiller with any ice bath, bathtub or bucket, you name it. The chiller includes a pump and filter, so you just place both hoses from the chiller into any body of water to start cooling it. If your tub doesn’t have a bottom valve for connection, you’ll need to siphon water into the inlet hose to start circulation. Please refer to YouTube for how to siphon, this is necessary as the pump cannot start circulating if there’s air in the hoses.

How cold can it make my water?

The Standard Chiller can cool up to 490 L of water down to 5 °C in climates with temperatures below 30 °C.

Our Chiller cools the water in your ice bath down to 5 °C and maintains that temperature efficiently with minimal power use, thanks to its built in thermostat, which activates roughly once per hour to sustain the selected water temperature.

Is the Chiller gonna run up my electricity bill?

No! The power usage is only 280 W, which is comparable to the fridge/freezer in your home.

Example of power usage: at 25 °C room temperature and Chiller temperature set at 8 °C, it will consume around 1.4–1.8 kWh per day (every 24 hours). With today's average electricity rate per kWh in the UK, that equals to just around £0.50 per day in electricity cost to run the Chiller 24/7. (These are estimates and can vary depending on the climate and temperatures where you live.)

Does the Chiller come with a filter to keep the water clean?

Yes, our Water Chiller has a 20-micron filter with 24/7 water circulation, continuously removing hair, skin cells, leaves, sand, and other debris to keep your ice bath clean and ready whenever you are, with minimal effort.

Be your own judge of the water condition, and change it when needed. But if you choose not to use sanitiser to disinfect, we recommend changing the water every 3-5 sessions or once per week.

We also recommend cleaning the Chiller's water filter once every 1-2 weeks. You simply unscrew the transparent cover, take out the filter, and rinse it with a brush and tap water, or spray it with a garden hose at high pressure. Replace with a brand new filter once a month to avoid damage to the Chiller due to restricted water flow.

How much will I save on ice?

Assuming each ice bath session requires around 10kg of ice on average, and with an average cost of £1 per kg, we have calculated that at 5 ice baths per week, the chiller cost is made back in 2-3 months. Then you can also consider all the hassle saved from buying/making ice and the water filtration system built into the chiller saving you lots of water and time.

Investing in the water chiller is undoubtedly a smart financial & time saving decision if you're a regular ice plunger.

How is the Chiller so cheap compared to competitors?

We get this one a lot, but the answer is surprisingly simple. Our core mission at The Pod Company is to make healthy habits accessible for everyone, so you don’t have to sell a kidney to afford a premium ice bath.

Our Pod Chiller is priced lower than our competitors because we’ve developed it from scratch using components from chest freezers. We also negotiate the best prices with our suppliers for materials and components by ordering very large stock quantities, streamline our production process to reduce labour costs, and focus on essential features without adding unnecessary ones.

Our Pod Chiller is a high-quality and affordable option for your ice bath needs, without the huge mark-up most other brands put on their ice baths.

Can I keep the Chiller outdoors?

Yes! The Chiller is water-resistant, so it won’t be damaged by humidity or weather. That said, we always recommend keeping it under a shaded spot, cover, shelter or overhanging roof to protect it from bad weather and direct sunlight, as these factors can negatively affect its performance & lifespan.

Security measures should also be taken, such as bringing the chiller indoors if there’s lightning or a storm outside.

Important: please do not cover it with anything while it’s running, as it needs proper airflow to cool down. Always allow at least 40 cm of space around the Chiller.

What is the decibel level of the Pod Chiller?

The Pod Chiller is very quiet, with readings ranging from 40–45 decibels, about the same noise level as a fridge.

Can I use the Chiller outdoors?

Yes, our Chiller is built to withstand all the elements, your water stays clean and cold, even in the hottest climates. Do be cautious in freezing conditions and follow the recommendations in the manual supplied with your Chiller.

It’s essential that your Chiller runs 24/7 if the outside temperature drops below freezing; otherwise, the pipes and internal tank can become damaged. With consistent water flow, this won’t happen.

We always recommend emptying the Chiller by disconnecting the hoses and tipping it to let the water drain out, then storing it indoors in non-freezing conditions until needed again.

The purpose of the Chiller is to operate in warmer temperatures to keep your water cold, and there’s no need to keep it connected to the Ice Pod when it’s freezing outside, as your water will naturally stay at cold temperatures.

THE SAUNA POD

How is the Sauna Pod different to other portable saunas on the market?

Unlike steam saunas that often use cheap polyester materials (which can release toxic gases when heated), our sauna is designed to prioritise your health. It’s made with 100% natural black cotton inside and out, with cotton insulation between the layers.

You can expect the Sauna Pod to heat up to 85 °C, unlike steam saunas that only reach about 45 °C, which isn’t even sufficient to unlock the scientifically proven sauna health benefits. The Sauna Pod is the world’s first portable hot-air sauna able to reach these temperatures.

How does the Sauna get hot?

It’s a hot air based system, heat is generated by our patent pending electric heater; think of it as a miniature version of a regular sauna stove. No steam or water is needed, providing genuine heat without any dampness.

How hot does the Sauna Pod get?

It heats up to 85 °C, unlike portable steam saunas that only reach about 45 °C.

How do you power the Sauna Pod?

Operates with a standard UK plug at 230 V.

How long does the Sauna Pod take to heat up?

The Sauna Pod heats up to 85 °C in 15–20 minutes.

How long does the Sauna Pod take to setup?

It should only take about 5-10 minutes to set up your Sauna Pod, unlike other products on the market. Saunas costing thousands of pounds can take several hours to set up and often require specialist tools.

It’s just as simple to take down the Sauna Pod too, and a carry bag is included, so you can take it on adventures with you.

How long should I spend in the sauna?

We recommend sessions to be 15-30 minutes. If you're a regular sauna user, you may be able to stay longer. It is unlikely that you'll experience more significant health benefits by staying inside for longer as your body will have cleared out the majority of harmful toxins inside the body through sweating within the first 10-15 min.

Who cannot use the Sauna Pod?

If you have a high sensitivity to heat, have a fever, a condition that affects your ability to sweat, or a pacemaker or defibrillator, we don’t recommend using our sauna.

What EMF does the Sauna Pod generate?

Our patent pending heater uses resistance coils to generate heat. The current passing through these coils produces low frequency electromagnetic fields (similar to other household appliances such as hairdryers and electric cookers). It’s impossible to achieve zero EMF, but the Sauna Pod heater is at the lower end and would be classified as a low-EMF appliance.

Does the red light in the Sauna Pod have any functional benefit?

The red light in our Sauna Pod is a regular red LED strip that enhances the ambience during a session.

It’s not red light therapy, which requires specific wavelengths to be effective (typically between 600 and 850 nm).

Regular red LED strips are not designed for therapeutic purposes.

How do you recommend cleaning the Sauna Pod?

The Sauna Pod features a PVC floor material that’s easy to wipe clean, ensuring effortless maintenance. The chair is made from a durable fabric that’s also designed for easy cleaning. In addition, the cotton fabric of the sauna itself is treated with a wax coating, making it liquid repellent. This prevents the absorption of sweat and humidity, allowing for simple wipe down cleaning.

We also recommend leaving the compartment door open after use so the unit gets proper ventilation.
